It is a relatively young and modern city of the skyscrapers, parks and historical places, which was found in 1857, as a small mining town, whose inhabitants were engaged in the development of tin mines, and it was located near the rivers Klang and Gombak. In the 19th century, Kuala Lumpur has become a real city with the developed manufacture, trade and financial sphere. The first settlement on the site of modern Kuala Lumpur has appeared before the construction of the city itself.

In the period from the 7th to 13th centuries, the whole territory of the modern Kuala Lumpur was under the power of Sumatran state Srivijaya. At the end of the 14th century, on the peninsula was formed a new state Malacca Sultanate. The 15th century was a period of greatest prosperity for the Sultanate of Malacca, the state become one of the biggest staging posts and centers of the international trade in Southeast Asia.

In the 17th century, it was captured by the Portuguese. But in the middle of the 17th century, they were expelled from the peninsula of Malacca by the Dutch, and at this period was separated the principality of Selangor, which in 1880, elected the capital of its state - Kuala Lumpur. In 1896, the city was chosen as the administrative center of the Federation of Malay States. From 1941 till 1945, Japanese troops encroached upon the Malay Peninsula and violated the routine life of it. The British government proposed to establish the Malayan Union with Kuala Lumpur as an administrative center. The project was met with negative reaction of the local residents.
